Which is one reason I don't eat oatmeal for breakfast--just a few hours later I become *ravenously* hungry. But my athlete father has eaten it nearly his whole life, and he is now 87 and in great shape. Oats are rich in only one vitamin, B1, which is not hard to obtain elsewhere, and they have reasonable amounts of some other B vitamins. They are high in protein (which the article doesn't mention), many minerals, and some other interesting micronutrients. I suspect that their main benefit is to the gut bacteria.
